Food for life
The nursery has been awarded the ‘Food for Life’ accreditation, which works towards bringing nurseries and communities together, in regards to locally sourced food and assures that the highest quality of food is offered to the children within the setting.
Children regularly engage in food related activities to ensure that they are learning skills in cooking and finding out important information about food. We also work with parents on menu choices and ask for input from our families about new meal ideas with our termly and seasonal menus.

Food for Life Early Years Award
Creative Hands Childcare in Stapleford achieves National Good Food Award.
Creative Hands Childcare in Stapleford has achieved a prestigious national award in acknowledgement of their commitment to providing outstanding food and food education for children in their care.
By achieving a Soil Association Food for Life Early Years award, Creative Hands Childcare has demonstrated they are providing tasty, nutritious meals and an environment that encourages good social skills and healthy choices. They are also supporting the development of good food habits for life through practical cooking and growing activities and food-based learning – both for children and their parents and carers.
Harmony in Words: Team Testimonies

Since starting Food for Life both staff and children have become more knowledgeable in where food comes from and what a balanced diet is. The children have started to enjoy growing produce and using this in our own cooking/baking sessions. Taken part in Taste Education where they are encouraged to taste, smell, hold, look and listen to sounds of foods. Baking is giving the children the ability to use different techniques, taking their recipes home to cook with their parents and talking about it when they come back into the setting.
As a whole setting we also visited a farm which was a truly amazing experience. Watching the expressions on their faces and the enjoyment they had was so rewarding. We have also shared valuable information with parents and practitioners on how to provide a better start to their children's life, this has included: vitamins, dentists, fussy eating, food banks etc.
Overall, this was a very useful, knowledgeable, and exciting project to take part in and we are extremely proud to have gained the award as well as making a difference to children's lives.
LAURIE MCCARTEN
NURSERY MANAGER AT CREATIVE HANDS CHILDCARE

Food for Life has been an exciting challenge, not only has it educated the children and myself along the way. It has bought back the love for cooking again. Knowing the children are having a healthy balanced diet on a day-to-day basis is a fantastic feeling all around, letting the children join in with cooking sessions and growing their own produce and seeing their little faces light up with excitement has been exhilarating to watch.
JODIE BARSA
KITCHEN MANAGER AT CREATIVE HANDS CHILDCARE

I am incredibly proud of Creative Hands Childcare for their hard work in achieving a Food for Life Early Years award. By meeting all of the criteria they are demonstrating that they are not only providing the nutritious food that plays such a crucial role in a child's development, but are enriching the curriculum through growing and cooking, giving every child in their care the best possible start in life.
As a survey by Food for Life shows that 90% of parents say the provision of healthy food is an important choice factor when selecting an early years provider for their children, I hope the award will be as a useful guide for parents and carers in the process of choosing a nursery, as it verifies Creative Hands Childcare are meeting clearly laid out criteria.
